December 2009 Prayer Letter

December 16, 2009

Dear Friends and Family,

Merry Christmas to all of you! We hope this letter finds you well and that you will enjoy hearing what the Lord has been doing in the Snow family since our previous letter.

TEAM Training Update:

In October we went through a week long training in Wheaton, Illinois. This was the last training that TEAM requires before we leave for the field. What we learned was very beneficial to inform and prepare us for our future transition and service in Japan. This training also allowed us to interact in an extended period of time with other TEAM missionaries (who are in the same stage as ours in support raising) as well as with our TEAM advisor and other staff. God gave us tremendous encouragement and necessary direction for our continued work of deputation.

Trip to South Carolina:

In October, Noriko had the opportunity to visit the first church that she ever attended in South Carolina thirteen years ago to give her testimony of her salvation and growth in the Lord over the years. The Lord granted her several more opportunities recently to share her testimony with different groups of people such as a Japanese ladies Bible study, our small group, and a Japanese ladies outreach event. We received many encouraging comments from believers and unbelievers about how it impacted their lives.

We have seen Noriko’s gift of encouragement being exercised in the lives of others through her testimony repeatedly over the years. We are confident that it will also contribute greatly to fulfilling the ministry vision that the Lord has given us for our service in Japan, which is that TEAM missionaries and Japanese Christians will become more effective and efficient in establishing reproducing churches in Japan by the support and encouragement provided through our God-given abilities and gifts.

Support Raising Update:

We have a huge praise to share with you about our financial support. Our transition expenses (the $40,103 needed to be raised to pay for our moving expenses and Chad’s language learning) have reached to 100%! Another praise is that we have finally broken the 30% margin where our monthly support had been for a very long time. Words cannot express enough the gratitude and encouragement this amazing provision of God has brought to our hearts as well as our renewed faith in Him for our continued work of deputation.

Lessons from God’s Word:

Noriko recently went through an inductive study of Genesis. In this study, the coming judgment of God (upon the world of the ungodly) became more real to her like never before. He revealed a deeper understanding that He is the God who judges the unrighteous, and that their destruction is sure just like during the days of Noah without the ark of safety which can only be found in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

When God revealed to Noah what He was about to do —bringing the flood of judgment upon the earth — he took God at His word and started living in preparation for that coming day. In the same way, Noriko saw her need of taking what she learned from this study very seriously and living according to it.

God’s heart is that none would perish, but He waits patiently for all to come to repentance during this time of impending judgment. As we continue to go through this time of preparation for our service in Japan, please pray that our hearts will truly join in this heart of God like never before, and that we will be all the more motivated, eager, and faithful in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ until He returns.

Prayer Request:

  1. Please praise the Lord for the provision of all the transition expenses and the continued growth in our monthly support.
  2. In this time of preparation for our service in Japan, please pray that our hearts will truly join with God’s heart, and that we will be all the more motivated, eager, and faithful in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ until He returns.
  3. Please pray for our family transition with the birth of our second child in February.

Sincerely,

Chad and Noriko Snow

September 2009 Prayer Letter

September 7, 2009

Dear Friends and Family,

Hello everyone! We hope that you are having a good summer. We have been spending a lot of time at the pool which is Yuki’s favorite place to be. The weather here in Dayton has been wonderful this summer.

Noriko’s Pregnancy:

We are very excited to announce that Noriko is expecting our second child in February. She has struggled with morning sickness for the last couple of weeks, but God has been graciously carrying her through this time. This news was quite a surprise for us in the midst of this busy support raising process. However we have always desired to have a second child and many people have prayed along with us for God’s perfect will regarding this matter. He obviously answered those prayers by choosing this season of our lives to bring it about, so we are very excited to find out how this perfect will of God will be manifested in our lives ahead. We also know that one of the major work that the Lord has been doing in our lives right now is to grow a heart of utter dependence on Him. We have begun to see that this pregnancy is one of God’s ways to accomplish this work of His in our lives by proving His all sufficiency in bringing the work of deputation to completion.

Our plans have changed for departure because the baby is due in February. We are now targeting to leave for Japan some time after the baby’s birth around March or April of 2010, so that Yuki could make a smooth transition to school which starts in April.

Second Language Acquisition Course:

Chad spent three weeks in Wheaton, Illinois for a course on second language acquisition. It was a very challenging course for him, but he gained a lot of good information and techniques on how to learn a second language. He also discovered many of his weaknesses in language learning and how to work to improve them. Besides during those three weeks God blessed him with the opportunity to fellowship with many missionaries in the class preparing to serve all over the world. It was a great encouragement to Chad to see how others share in his struggles and fears toward language learning.

Support Raising Update:

Recently we have had the opportunity to speak at our home church and several small groups in Dayton, Ohio. It has been wonderful getting to know more people and it is such a joy to share with them the message that God has entrusted to us about His heart and work for Japan. Please join us in prayer that whatever the eternal work that God has started in those people’s lives though the seed of the message, He will continue to bring it to completion. We have another church group meeting scheduled in September and are also in the process of talking with others about speaking engagements.

It has been a little over a year since we started support raising and we have been absolutely marveled to see God’s provision of many financial and prayer supporters. We still have a long way to go in terms of monthly support to meet our requirement of 100 percent before departure. Would you please prayerfully consider how you can help us discover more of God’s chosen people and churches to be partners with us in our service in Japan? Here are some practical ways that others have helped us to get connected with those supporters:

  • They talked with their pastor or missions committee about inviting us to speak at their church.
  • They talked with their small group leader about us speaking in their small group.
  • They hosted a meeting in their home and invited people who were interested to hear about missions.
  • They talked with others about our ministry and got them connected to us in other unique ways that God laid upon their hearts.

We would like to take a moment to thank all of you who have contributed toward our ministry in these ways.

Prayer Request:

  1. Please pray for our continued growth of a heart of utter dependence on God in His completion of the support raising work.
  2. Please pray that whatever the eternal work that God has started in people’s lives who heard the message in our presentation, He will continue to bring it to completion.
  3. Please pray that God will continue to raise people who will help us get connected with more of His chosen supporters.
  4. In October we will attend a week long TEAM training in Wheaton, Illinois (October 11-17). Please pray that God will use it greatly to better equip and prepare us for our future transition and service in Japan.

Sincerely,

Chad and Noriko Snow

Dear Friends and Family,

Hello everyone, we hope this letter finds you well. We have been busy these past months with traveling and starting to go through things in our home as a small step toward the upcoming move.

Update on Chad’s Work:
Shortly after sending out our last prayer letter, we got word that Chad’s job would end on March 31st. We are praising the Lord that He allowed Chad two more months of work than was first expected last year when the General Motors Assembly Plant closed in December. Since then he has been working full time on support raising.

Pre-field Education Planning Seminar:
At the beginning of May we took a trip to Wheaton, Ill., for a Pre-field Education Planning Seminar. God truly used this seminar to teach us about education options for our daughter, Yuki, as well as to prepare us for our upcoming transition as a family. Please join us in prayer for the Lord’s clear direction and wisdom for Yuki’s future education in Japan and also for our sensitivity, understanding, and helpfulness toward her needs as she faces possible challenges during the transition.

Pre-field Preparation:
In the last letter we mentioned the missions course “Pathways” that Chad was taking. The course was completed at the end of April and served as a greatpre-field preparation for him. This course covered missions through four different paths: biblical, historical, strategical, and cultural. Chad came to understand better that historically God has used many different ways, strategies, and ideas to fulfill His heart to see all nations praise Him through their unique cultures.

The Japanese ladies Bible study on parenting that Noriko had attended ended in May. God has used this study to accomplish two great things in her life this year. First, in line with our ministry vision “that missionaries and Japanese Christians will become more efficient and effective in establishing reproducing churches in Japan by the support and encouragement provided through our God-given abilities and gifts,” this Bible study served as a perfect pre-field preparation for her as she served alongside the missionaries who led it. Secondly, when she took a Day of Prayer and Vision last September, God clearly showed her that one of His major focus in her life this year was growth in parenting. This Bible study was absolutely God-given, serving to fulfill that vision of His in her life. Finally, we would appreciate your continued prayer for all the ladies whom God brought to this study this year, specifically that He will bring about eternal fruit by completing the good work that He has started in their lives.

Thank you for your prayer regarding our Bible study on the life of Joseph. There are many wonderful lessons we learned from the study. As God continues to prepare and equip us for our service in Japan, one lesson that seemed to stand out to us was how to forgive yourself of your sins and also how to help others forgive themselves. We saw in the lives of Joseph’s brothers the reign of guilt and fear from their past sin against Joseph. Joseph helped them to forgive themselves by letting them see God’s sovereignty over their sin that served His good and divine purpose.

Starting June 14th Chad will be taking a three-week course at Wheaton College on second language acquisition. The class teaches you how to effectively learn a second language. The language program that Chad will take in Japan is built upon this course, so please pray that he will come to understand this effective method of second language learning.

Support Raising Update:
We have been in the process of contacting individuals to broaden our network of people. If you are able to help connect us with your church or others and individuals with a heart for missions, please contact us at the email addresses below. We would love the opportunity to share with more people God’s heart and work for the country of Japan.

Prayer Request:

  1. Please pray for the Lord’s clear direction and wisdom for Yuki’s future education in Japan as well as for our sensitivity, understanding, and helpfulness toward her needs as she faces possible challenges of the upcoming transition.
  2. Please pray for all the ladies whom God brought to the Japanese Ladies Bible Study this year; pray that He will bring about eternal fruit by completing the good work that He started in their lives.
  3. Please pray for Chad as he takes a three-week second language acquisition course in June; pray that it will benefit him greatly with his Japanese language learning in the future.
  4. Please pray that God will raise people who are able to help us get connected with churches or individuals for more opportunities for us to share about our ministry.

Sincerely,

Chad and Noriko Snow

March 2009 Prayer Letter

March 10, 2009

Dear Friends and Family,

Greetings from Dayton, Ohio! We hope all of you have had a good start to 2009 and that you will enjoy hearing what the Lord has been doing in the Snow family.

Update on Chad’s Work:

We would like to give you a quick update about Chad’s work. The General Motors Assembly Plant where he worked for eleven years closed on December 23, 2008. We thank you for all your prayers concerning his job situation. God has answered them by providing him with a new project that will allow him to work from home until April.

Sharing Opportunities:

We are very thankful for all the opportunities that the Lord has granted us so far to share about our ministry. We have seen God’s all sufficiency and faithfulness in every step of support raising work. We have experienced in a deeper way that it is truly by God’s work, not depending on our work or anything else. The Scripture that the Lord has impressed upon our hearts to cling to and pray through during this time of deputation is 2 Chronicles 16:9 “For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” More and more we have come to see and understand that this heart that seeks and relies solely and completely on God is what He desires to grow in the lives of His servants.

God often reminds us that the work of deputation is truly a grace of God, an undeserving privilege given to us to be able to testify before countless people the glorious and gracious work of God in our lives over the years and to be His messengers, carrying the message of His divine work in Japan and inviting people to join in it. It has been our prayer that throughout the time of deputation — no matter how challenging and overwhelming the work seems to get — we may keep this reminder of God in our hearts and approach the work with humility, thanksgiving and joy.

Pre-field Preparation:

Along with his continued computer support ministry at our home church (Patterson Park Church), Chad has recently been blessed with various opportunities to help people who are going to the mission field prepare their computers. This continues to confirm and prepare us for our ministry vision “That TEAM missionaries and Japanese Christians will become more efficient and effective in establishing reproducing churches in Japan by the support and encouragement provided through our God-given abilities and gifts.”

At the end of January, Chad started a 14-week missions course “Pathways,” which was recommended by the mission committee at our home church. It has been such a rewarding course and has changed his perspectives on missions in many different ways. Please pray with us that God will powerfully use this course as a pre-field preparation for Chad for his effective service to Him.

We have been going through an inductive study in Genesis and studying the life of Joseph with a small group at our church. Over the years God has led us to bible studies that perfectly fit to the season of our lives. As God continues to prepare us for the work of ministry in Japan, please pray that He will open our eyes to see what He wants to teach us in this study and that we may “work out our salvation with fear and trembling,” living out what He works within us (Philippians 2:15).

Support Update:

We are very thankful that God has provided 27% of the monthly support and 47% of the transition expenses, and many prayer warriors. Currently we are trying to build a support team with other churches and individuals through our network of friends and family. If you know of anyone or any churches who would like to hear more about our ministry, please let us know.

Prayer Requests

  1. As God continues to prepare us for the work of ministry in Japan, please pray that He will open our eyes to see what He wants us to learn and apply from our current study on the life of Joseph.
  2. Please pray that God will powerfully use the 14-week missions course “Pathways” as a pre-field preparation for Chad for his effective service to Him.
  3. Please pray that throughout the time of deputation no matter how challenging and overwhelming the work seems to get, we may keep in our hearts the attitude of humility, thanksgiving and joy toward the work.
  4. Please pray that God will continue to grow in us a heart that seeks and relies solely and completely on him during the work of deputation.

Sincerely,

Chad and Noriko Snow
